Bio
Lauren Rowles was crowned Paralympic champion at the Rio 2016 Games just a year after taking up rowing and defended her title at Tokyo 2020.
Rowles and crewmate Laurence Whiteley went into the PR2 mixed double sculls at Tokyo 2020 with the mission of maintaining their triple crown of World, European and Paralympic titles and did just that, finishing almost five seconds ahead of their nearest rivals.
The defending champions crossed the finish line in a time of 8:38.99 to become the first pair to defend a Paralympic doubles sculls crown, with the Netherlands overtaking the wayward Chinese to claim silver
Rowles is a former wheelchair athlete who first tried rowing in early 2015 after a chance meeting with GB Rowing Team staff at Stoke Mandeville Sports Centre.
But by the end of the season she had helped to qualify the trunk-arms mixed double scull boat for the Paralympic Games and went on to win a glorious gold with Laurence Whiteley in 2016, setting a new World Best time along the way.
In 2017, Rowles and Whiteley won silver at the second World Cup regatta in Poznan, but missed out on a place at the World Rowing Championships in Sarasota-Bradenton due to Rowles suffering an injury
However, the pair went on to win gold at the 2019 World Championships in Austria,, adding another gold at the European Championships 2021.
Now with new partner Gregg Stevenson, the pair qualified their boat for Paris 2024 with a new World Leading Time of 8:00:57 to win gold at the World Championships in Belgrade.
