Bio
Kadeena Cox showed yet again that she is one of the greatest Paralympians of all time after she recovered from injury to retain her 750m team sprint title alongside teammates Jaco van Gass and Jody Cundy.
Kadeena Cox competed in Cycling and Athletics at Tokyo 2020 winning two gold medals at the velodrome in the Mixed 750m Team sprint C1-C5 along with Jaco van Gass and Jody Cundy and the 500m time trial C4-C5 before competing in the T38 400 metres where she finished in fourth place.
A sprinter from an early age, Kadeena Cox entered Para athletics in 2015 after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. In her first international competition, Cox won T37 100m gold at the IPC Athletics World Championships.
The Manchester-based athlete has since been reclassified to the T38 class, where she won 100m bronze at the 2016 IPC Athletics European Championships.
Cox is also a GB cyclist and began her cycling journey in June 2015, travelling to her first major event in Maniago, Italy, as an independent rider. She was classified as a C2 and completed the time-trial.
However it was on the track where Cox immediately began to shine with her power marking her out as a stand-out performer in sprint events.
Her first major success was at the British Cycling National Track Championships where she won the first British title of her career in the C1-5 500 metre time-trial.
She carried this form into her next major para-cycling event, the Manchester International, winning gold in the team sprint alongside Jody Cundy and Jon Allen-Butterworth.
Cox was selected for the 2016 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships, and after being re-classified as a C4 won the 500 metre time-trial in a new world record time of 37.456.
This victory allowed Cox to complete the unique achievement of becoming a world champion in two different sports.
At Rio 2016 Cox won three medals in athletics with gold in the T38 400m, silver in the 4x100m and bronze in the 100m. She also completed a remarkable achievement by claiming a gold medal in cycling with victory in the C4-5 time trial to become the first British Paralympian for 32 years to win medals in two different sports.
In 2017 Cox claimed three medals on home soil at the World Championships in London with 400m gold, 100, silver and 200m bronze.
In December that year Cox suffered a knee injury which kept her out of both sports for a significant period of time. Despite admitting that the problem still had to be managed, Cox returned to the velodrome to reclaim her C4 500m world title in Apeldoorn in 2019.
Back on the track, Cox claimed T38 400m silver at the 2019 World Para Athletics World Championships in Dubai. Just a few weeks later she returned to the saddle and won two silver medals (500m and team sprint) at the Para cycling Track World Championships in Milton, Canada.
From 2022 in France to 2024 in Brazil, Cox has successfully defended her velodrome world title in the C4 500m Time Trial event.
