Amy Truesdale won gold in dramatic fashion at the Grand Palais during the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games She was an 8-2 winner over Uzbekistan’s Guljonoy Naimova in the final of the women’s K44 +65kg category after her opponent withdrew following an accidental kick that deflected off her shoulder, despite being medically cleared to carry on, Naimova withdrew, awarding Truesdale a deserved victory at the Grand Palais.

She celebrated in real style doing a cartwheel and the splits and later joked she was auditioning for Stricly Come Dancing.

Amy also won a bronze medal at Tokyo 2020 as Para taekwondo made its debut at the Games. The Chester-born athlete was initially encouraged to take up the martial art by her father for self-defence alongside her sister, Chloe.

After losing in the semi-final to the eventual champion Naimova of Uzbekistan in Tokyo, Truesdale rallied back and kicked for victory in the bronze final with a comprehensive win over Iran’s Rayeheh Shahab.

Truesdale already had an impressive medal tally and is best known for her World Championship wins in 2014, 2017 and 2023 making her a triple World Champion.

She is also a four-time European champion, winning gold’s in 2015, 2016, 2017 and most recently Gold at the 2024 European Championships in Serbia.

Amy claimed Silver at the 2021 World Championships and Bronze at the 2022 Europeans

Before receiving UK Sport funding and joining the GB programme fulltime, Truesdale had a brief stint in retail and was also a coach in the TAGB style of the sport. Amy occasionally visits Europe for part-time modelling work.

Amy has a talent for dancing and is also a keen advocate for disability sport, where she has made it her mission to raise awareness.
