Born completely blind before gaining some sight at the age of two, Skinner has ocular albinism, a genetic eye condition characterised by vision abnormalities.
Zak competes in both track and field events and represented Great Britain in the 100m and long jump at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London. He placed 4th in the T13 long jump
Skinner won a silver medal in the T13 long jump at the World Para Athletics European Championships 2018 in Berlin with a mark of 6.72 metres.
He became a double European champion in 2021 after topping the podium in both the T13 100m and Long Jump before making his Paralympic debut in Tokyo. In Japan, he finished eighth in the 100m and fourth in Long Jump.
At the 2023 World Championships in Paris, he won a bronze in the T13 Long Jump with a mark of 6.97 metres.
