Bio
Phil is approaching Paris reenergised after choosing not to compete at Tokyo as he prioritised his mental health at a time where he describes it as at an “all-time low”. He hopes that talking openly about his own struggles with his mental health will help encourage others to share their experiences and seek out the help they might need.
On the court, Phil has been a hugely talented addition to the squad since he helped GB win junior European gold in 2014. He was a flag bearer at London 2012’s opening ceremony with seven of his team mates.
He would make his Paralympic debut four years later for ParalympicsGB in Rio, where he played a key role in their overtime win over Turkey to claim bronze.
Two years later, he scored 12 points and added 12 assists to lead the way as a captain in the thrilling World Championship final against USA to help GB secure their first world title since the first edition in 1973.
In 2019 and 2023, Phil would claim gold at the European Championships. Phil was named in the All-Star Five at the 2022 World Championships, where the team claimed silver.
At Paris 2024, the team achieved the nation’s best result in the sport in 28 years by claiming second place and the silver medal. In a pulsating final, ParalympicsGB fought back from 12 points down but succumbed to 73-69 defeat to Team USA who claimed their own title of the greatest team ever after making it a historic three titles on the trot.
Outside of basketball, he is a huge gamer, Phil has recently started streaming on Twitch, which he juggles alongside his career as a professional athlete.
