A promising junior footballer, Lucy broke her hip whilst on roller skates which resulted in a long-term hip condition, Avascular necrosis.
After not being able to play football anymore, Lucy discovered wheelchair basketball at a ‘come and try’ event organised by Leicester Cobras. Falling in love with the team and fun nature of the sport, Lucy began training with The Cobras and was part of The Cobras’ Women’s League team.
She was one of the first athletes to receive British Wheelchair Basketball’s Advanced Apprenticeship programme (now known as DiSE), where you study the theory of wheelchair basketball as well as practice it on the court.
As a talented junior player, she helped the U25 team win European gold in 2018 as one of the leading scorers before being invited to her first overseas camp with the senior team in 2020.
In 2021, Lucy was part of the history-making Loughborough Lightning squad as they won the first ever BWB Women’s Premier League title. Lucy also spends additional time on court as a coach, notably having coached a BUCS side.
She was part of the team that reached the Quarter-Finals at Paris 2024 losing to Team USA 59-52.
Lucy’s family have become well-known on the wheelchair basketball circuit for bringing their case of musical instruments along to games to get the crowds going and show their support for the team.
