Bio
Lee Manning is a formidable forward with an extensive reach that is a force to be reckoned with.
His height allows him to dominate underneath the basket and just three months after taking up the sport in 2005, he was invited to his first GB Camp and subsequently selected for the 2006 U-22 European Championships.
Lee narrowly missed out on a place at London 2012 as a first reserve, but two years later he would make his full debut at the 2014 World Championships before helping the ParalympicsGB team to another bronze medal at his maiden Paralympics in Rio.
At Paris 2024, the Wheelchair Basketball team achieved the nation’s best result in the sport in 28 years by claiming second place and the silver medal. In a pulsating final, ParalympicsGB fought back from 12 points down but succumbed to 73-69 defeat to Team USA who claimed their own title of the greatest team ever after making it a historic three titles on the trot.
At World Championships, Lee was a prominent scorer in GB’s campaign to their first title since 1973 after the team claimed gold in Hamburg in 2018. Lee is a qualified Grade 2 wheelchair basketball coach and enjoys passing on his knowledge and experience to young junior athletes at his local club and those who are looking to follow in his path up to elite level.
Lee is passionate about engineering and loves taking on new projects, including restoring an old van into a motor home and building his own computers. Never too far from his toolkit, Lee enjoys helping the team’s mechanic and was involved in designing the current model for the team’s sports chairs which are named after him.
