A keen sportswoman throughout her life, Karen started out in wheelchair racing and also competed internationally in powerlifting and wheelchair basketball before she was invited to a wheelchair curling come-and-try day in 2021 by fellow English player Stewart Pimblett, who she knew through wheelchair basketball.

Karen made her international debut in 2023 and was part of the England team that excelled at the ‘B’ World Championships in November 2024. The team finished on the podium with bronze, qualifying for the World Wheelchair Championships in Stevenston, Ayrshire in the process. At that event, which took place in March 2025, England cemented their place on the world stage, finishing in eighth place.

Growing up, Karen had ambitions to represent ParalympicsGB, but in her own words, ‘never quite got there’. Her desire to return to sport after COVID restrictions and lockdown led her to pursue wheelchair curling and now she will make her debut at Milano Cortina 2026 in the mixed team event having progressed through British Curling’s Paralympic Pathway programme.

Karen is a keen gardener and grows all her own veg in her allotment garden – although wheelchair curling commitments means she’s produced less in recent years!
