First taking-up the sport after being introduced to wheelchair basketball at a Whizz Kidz skills event, Jim Palmer’s love for the sport began when he joined the Essex Outlaws at age 10. Just two years later, Jim was invited to a GB development camp where his ambition to progress to the elite of the sport was nurtured.
After he made the move to play basketball in Germany at a young age, Jim helped the GB junior side make history as the first British side to win a world junior title in 2017.
One year later, he would make his full senior debut at the World Championships where he helped the team make history again with another gold in Germany.
These back-to-back golden triumphs earned him a selection to the ParalympicsGB team for the first time in Tokyo, where he would collect a bronze medal.
At Paris 2024, the team achieved the nation’s best result in the sport in 28 years by claiming second place and the silver medal. In a pulsating final, ParalympicsGB fought back from 12 points down but succumbed to 73-69 defeat to Team USA who claimed their own title of the greatest team ever after making it a historic three titles on the trot.
Jim enjoys playing video games and loves getting stuck into a good drama or comedy when he’s looking for a way to unwind.
