Bio
At 17-years-old Ian Sagar broke his back in a motorbike accident and took-up the sport after seeing the Sheffield Steelers train through a window during his rehabilitation in hospital. Since he first noticed the sport, Ian wanted to give wheelchair basketball a go and as soon as he was able to during his rehabilitation he joined one of the club’s sessions.
After making his debut for Great Britain in 2008, Ian has been a part of the bronze and gold winning European Championship teams since 2009; co-captaining the team to gold and a qualification place for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games at the 2015 European Championships in Worcester.
In 2012, Ian made his Paralympic Games debut in front of a home crowd in London, before being a key member of the squad, four years later, in Rio where the team won the bronze medal in the hotly-contested game against Turkey.
Following the Rio Paralympics, Ian took a short break from international competition, before making a successful return to competition in 2019 as part of the European Championships gold-medal winning side.
