Greg Slade had a Paralympics debut to remember as he partnered Andy Lapthorne to secure a Quad doubles silver medal on his paralympic debut.

Greg started playing wheelchair tennis aged 14 when he and his parents discovered wheelchair tennis sessions at Sutton Tennis Academy. Having previously played tennis on his feet with his family, Greg made quick progress as a wheelchair player and in 2017, aged 15, he played his first junior tournament during the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships in Nottingham before going on to win his first National Championships junior title later that year.

He made his international debut for Great Britain in 2019 when he was selected for the junior team that won the silver medal at the World Team Cup in Israel, before making his senior Great Britain debut as part of the quad team selected for the 2021 World Team Cup in Sardinia.

2021 would also see Greg win his first international senior quad singles and quad doubles titles in Balma, in southern France, while in 2022 he would add two more singles title at ITF Futures Series level.

2022 saw Greg partner fellow Brit and three-time Paralympic medallist Andy Lapthorne in doubles competition for the first time, the duo winning the first of their two titles at the Bolton Indoor ITF 2 tournament. Greg continued to break new ground in 2023, making his Grand Slam tournament debut at Wimbledon and reaching his current career-best singles ranking of No.13 in July of that year.

Greg’s selection for the Paris Paralympics comes during what has already been a memorable 2024 for the Surrey player, starting with making his Australian Open debut in January, winning three of four titles at the Bolton Indoor ITF 2 and ITF 3 tournaments and most recently adding his sixth doubles title of 2024 at the Austrian Open.
