Born with Perthes Disease, Dermot began playing wheelchair tennis aged 11 and has gone on to represent Great Britain as a junior and as a senior at the World Team Cup, making his senior GB men’s debut in 2016 and being a part of the team that has since won one bronze and two silver medals before lifting the 2019 World Team Cup men’s title.
Dermot won his first senior international main draw singles title in 2015, the same year that he also became men’s singles National champion. He became a full-time wheelchair tennis player in October 2018 thanks to a Jun Yamaguchi Sport Award (JYSA). He reached his career-high men’s singles ranking of No.25 in November 2019 and earlier that season was a semi-finalist in the prestigious grass court tournament at The Queen’s Club.
Formerly a member of ParalympicsGB’s ‘Paralympic Inspiration Programme’, Tokyo will see Dermot make his Games debut.
