Edinburgh-born Davy Zyw is believed to be the first snowsport athlete with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a degenerative neurological condition, to ever compete at the Games.
Zyw was diagnosed with the condition in 2018 at 30-years-old and since then has been determined to raise awareness and funding for research into MND, taking part in numerous challenges, activities and campaigns including cycling Scotland’s famous North Coast 500 route. He works in the wine trade and is an expert champagne buyer and author.
A former competitive snowboarder as well as a keen cyclist, Zyw began snowboarding on Edinburgh’s dry slope as a 12-year-old alongside his twin brother, before moving to the French Alps after school, rising to sponsored, competitive level in freestyle by his early 20s.
After receiving his MND diagnosis Davy set his sights on taking part in the Paralympic Games. He took part in his first Para Snowboard competition in Landgraaf, the Netherlands in 2024.
Despite breaking his shoulder blade training in South America over the summer, Davy was back in action in Landgraaf in November 2025. A 5th and a 4th there was followed by podium finishes in the Banked Slalom at the Europa Cup in Austria then third in the Snowboard Cross in Lenk in January and two silvers in Big White, Canada in February - securing overall bronze in the season-long Europa Cup.
