David was born in Scotland, moving to Northern Ireland when he was very young. He sustained a spinal injury playing rugby at just 18-years-old when he was beginning his studies in sports science.

After leaving hospital, a fellow patient he met during rehabilitation introduced him to wheelchair rugby, and he was instantly hooked. His passion for contact sport had returned, initially playing for a club team in Ireland, Dave was first invited to GB trials in 2015. He returned to university and fully completed his sports science degree

He moved to England in 2019 to become a member of the GB development squad and focus on training full time.

After a few years of hard work, David made his international debut at the 2022 Canada Cup before helping the team to the 2023 European final in Cardiff, where they earned a silver medal. He will be making his Paralympic debut in Paris.

They narrrowly missed out on a medal at Paris 2024 finishing fourth after a narrow 50-48 defeat to Australia - a team they had been in the group stage

David is an ambassador for Horatio’s Garden, a charity supported by Ulster Rugby to fund a therapeutic garden at Musgrave Park hospital in Belfast.
