Devine took up athletics in 2007 at age 15 while at school. Devine competes in T12 and T13 middle-distance track events, and has represented Great Britain in both the 2011 World Para Athletics Championships in New Zealand and the London 2012 Paralympics.

His first senior international medal was a world bronze for the T13 800m in Christchurch. At the London Paralympics Devine ran in the T13 1500m final, where he ran a personal best of 3:49.79 to take the bronze medal and setting a new European record in the process.

Devine won a second bronze in the 800m which was secured in dramatic style. Roared on by a home crowd Devine chased down Cuba’s Lazaro Rashid, with a lengthy wait for a photo finish to confirm the result.

At the 2016 IPC Athletics European Championships in Grosseto, Devine returned from a four-year injury to collect the silver medal in the T13 1500m.

Having suffered multiple injuries and set backs during his career, Devine won gold in the 5000m and silver in the 1500m at the European World Para Athletics Championships 2018.

Devine returned to the Paralympic stage in Tokyo, where he just missed out on the podium with a fourth-placed finish in the T13 5000m.
