Chris Latham won silver in the men’s B 4000m individual pursuit on Day one of the Paris Paralympics, piloting Steve Bate. Despite taking the world record in qualifying, the duo had to settle for silver.
Latham was a professional rider for seven years gaining experience on both the road and track before joining the Para cycling team as pilot to Steve Bate.
The duo were crowned world champions in 2022 with a gold medal in the men’s B tandem pursuit on the same Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome where they will compete at Paris 2024
Riding at the Chris Hoy Velodrome at the 2023 World Championships in Glasgow Great Britain tandem pairings Bate piloted by Latham and Chris McDonald piloted by Adam Duggleby faced off in the men’s B individual pursuit bronze final, with Latham and Bate securing their places on the podium.
At the 2024 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro the duo won silver in the men’s tandem individual pursuit with the Netherlands’ world record holder Tristan Bangma and pilot Patrick Bos claiming the gold, with a new world record.
Riding for Team England at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Latham clinched bronze piloting two-time Paralympian Bate in the Men’s Tandem B 1000m Time Trial at his home Games.
Latham began his professional journey with three seasons riding for the WIGGINS team.
