Andy came to triathlon in 2013 via the Triathlon England Talent squad. He quickly broke into the GB Para-triathlon Squad and now spends much of the year training full time in Loughborough.

Andy is a through the knee amputee (right leg) having been involved in a motorbike accident when he was 16. At the time he was applying to be part of the Army Parachute Regiment and was an excellent cross country runner for Gloucestershire. He spent months in hospital and his leg was initially saved, but he later had it amputated when he was 22.

He competed in his first triathlon in April 2014 and by the end of the season achieved a gold medal at the Madrid ITU World Para-triathlon Event.

He won his first European Championship gold medal at the 2016 European Championships in Geneva, and in July of this year he won gold at the 2016 ITU Para-Triathlon World Championships in Rotterdam.

Andy made his Paralympic debut at Rio 2016, just over two years after he competed in his first triathlon.

He made history as he became the first ParalympicsGB athlete to win a medal in triathlon, powering to an impressive victory in the men’s PT2 event. His winning time of 1:11.49 was nearly a minute quicker than silver medallist, Italy’s Michele Ferrarin.

The PT2 classification has been removed from the competition schedule for Tokyo 2020
