Aaron Phipps was one of the three try scorers in ParalympicsGB’s historic gold medal victory over the USA in Tokyo, where they triumphed 54-49.
They narrrowly missed out on a medal at Paris 2024 finishing fourth after a narrow 50-48 defeat to Australia - a team they had been in the group stage.
He has been a mainstay of the squad since his international debut at the 2009 Europeans, one year after he started the sport in his school days.
Aaron was 15-years-old when he lost both of his legs after contracting meningitis but developed a love for wheelchair rugby that earned him his Paralympic debut at London 2012.
He took a hiatus from the sport and missed the Paralympics in 2016 to focus on his work and family life, where he is the proud father of two daughters. He returned in 2018 at the Quad Nations and has not left the squad since.
His defining moment came in Tokyo, where he scored 11 tries in the Paralympic final to help ParalympicsGB become the first European nation to win wheelchair rugby gold. He was awarded an MBE for his services.
Aaron is as impressive off the court as he is on it! He has competed in 2 London Marathons and in 2016, he climbed Kilimanjaro, raising £250,000 for the Meningitis Research Foundation (MSF) and featuring in a Channel 5 documentary. Aaron became the first person in the world to climb in a wheelchair – he spent the final four days on his hands and knees to reach the summit.
