GB in the medals on day two in Spain
It was double delight for Great Britain as Joshua Stacey and Dan Bullen took bronze and silver respectively at the at the PTT Spanish Open in Almeria.
Stacey came through his group in the SM9 category in convincing style without dropping as much as a set and went into today’s quarter-final match-up with Colombia’s Jimenez Velandia as the favourite.
And while the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games bronze medallist lost his first set of the tournament, he emerged with a 3-1 win, earning him a semi-final match-up with Ukrainian Lev Kats.
Unphased, the young Welshman notched yet another 3-0 win, but was beaten by the same scoreline in the final by former European medallist Dezso Bereczki.
In the SM5 competition, Dan Bullen had set up his quarter-final match against Dutchman Sam Roelofs in more dramatic style.
After a 3-0 defeat in his opening group game, he salvaged his chance to reach the knockout stages with a win over Hector Castaneda Ossa.
He made the most of his opportunity, triumphing over Roelofs before he was beaten in his semi-final by David Karl Olsson.
Elsewhere, Martin Perry, Alex Bland and Billy Shilton were beaten in their respective quarter-finals while Lucie Bouron took second place in her round robin event.
