Antony Cotterill added to Tokyo 2020 ParalympicsGB line-up after wild card is confirmed

ParalympicsGB has today announced that quad singles and doubles player Antony Cotterill has been added to the squad of wheelchair tennis players selected to travel to Tokyo this summer to represent Great Britain.

Cotterill will contest his second successive Paralympics after the International Tennis Federation confirmed his name on the complete list of direct acceptances and wild card entries for Tokyo.

The world No.15, who completes a squad of seven wheelchair players selected for Tokyo, said: “I’m delighted to have been selected for my second Paralympics. It’s always an honour to represent my country and something I take great pride in. After making my Paralympic debut as a singles player in 2016, I’m really excited to get the opportunity to play both singles and doubles in Tokyo, having partnered Andy Lapthorne to win some of the sport’s biggest titles together during our careers.”

Cotterill was part of a ParalympicsGB squad of players who won a record six wheelchair tennis medals in Rio.

His selection for Tokyo brings the total number of players to have ever represented Great Britain in tennis at the Olympic and Paralympic Games to 111, following the British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association’s first ever joint team announcement last week.

He has worked incredibly hard to get to this point and thoroughly deserves to be playing his second Paralympics. He joins what is already a very strong team and I’m sure will give a very good account of himself.”
