Shona sustained an injury during a military training exercise in 2012 which resulted in a below knee amputation six years later. Having never skied prior to injury, she learned to ski in Bavaria through the Battle Back programme, an MoD-funded initiative providing adventurous training opportunities to wounded, injured and sick service personnel.

Shona was given the opportunity to join the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team where she gained her first experiences of ski racing at military alpine skiing championships. She began to race competitively in sit-ski in 2019 and by the end of the 201920 season had won three gold medals at the British Championships, two gold medals at the Europa Cup finals and finished third overall in the Europa Cup.

Shona claimed Super-G silver and Giant slalom bronze at the World Para Snowsports Championships in Lillehammer, Norway in January 2022 and secured her place at her first Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing.

In China, Shona finished an admirable sixth in the Super-G and ninth in the Giant Slalom and Slalom on her Paralympic debut.

Away from the piste, Shona competes in triathlon – she finished second at the 2021 British Para Triathlon Championships – she is also a talented musician, having completed a Masters degree in music and pursued a career as a musician in the RAF.
