Scarlett Humphrey is a world bronze medallist, securing her maiden international medal as part of the Mixed 49pts 4x100m Freestyle Relay at the 2022 championships in Madeira.
She made her debut Paralympic Games appearance at Paris 2024, and already had the experience of 14 World Championship finals to her credit across the Madeira 2022 and Manchester 2023 editions.
The Northampton-born swimmer is a multiple British record holder in her classification.
Born with the genetic conditions Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA) and Nystagmus, Scarlett first got involved in swimming when her parents took her along to “learn to swim” lessons at the local leisure centre. A British Blind Sport’s swimming gala signposted her and her identical twin sister, Eliza, to Northampton Swimming Club where they began swimming competitively.
Both Humphrey sisters race in the S11 visually impaired category and are required to wear completely blackened goggles in competition. They are allowed the support of a ‘tapper’ at each end of the pool to warn them as they approach the pool wall.
Scarlett’s passions away from the pool include playing the piano and flute, while she also enjoys listening to cricket and Formula 1 coverage on the radio.
