Samantha Kinghorn announced herself on the international scene when she claimed a trio of gold medals at the European Championships in Swansea in 2014.

Her ability to compete with the best at a global level came to the fore in 2015 when she secured T53 200m bronze at the World Championships in Doha.

At Rio 2016 Samantha finished fifth in the T53 100m but a year later was back on the podium as she claimed 100m and 200m gold at the World Championships in London as well as bronze in the 400m.

In December 2010 Kinghorn had an accident which left her paralysed from the waist down. She underwent emergency surgery and spent five months in hospital. In the rehabilitation centre in Stoke Mandeville she met World and European club throw champion Jo Butterfield who was also undergoing rehab for a spinal injury. This sparked a great friendship between the two who have went on to become two of the leading Scottish athletes in the British Athletics squad.
