Michael made his ParalympicsGB debut at Tokyo 2020 in the same year he won a European silver medal in the PTS4 division.
The Devonshire man, who was a keen rugby player, discovered triathlon after watching the Rio 2016 Paralympics. He had to have his leg amputated when he was 19 years old.
Taylor began experiencing pain in his ankle, much like the sensation of when you endure a sprain. Although unlike any sprain, this pain refused to go and over the period of 9 months, got progressively worse. Unfortunately, another infection masked the diagnosis meaning the actual condition was detected too late and by the time it was, the infection had spread to the bones in Michael’s foot, forcing a decision for amputation.
He started paratriathlon in 2017 as part of the Tri4Tokyo initiative and went on to win two consecutive British titles.
In 2021, he finished second at the World Para-Tri Series in Leeds before finishing eighth at his first Paralympics in Japan.
Michael ended the year with his first major medal at the Europeans in Valencia before claiming a top-five finish at the World Championships in Abu Dhabi.
As Paris approaches, Michael has won three out of his last five events in 2024. Away from competition, Michael enjoys sightseeing and fishing.
