Bio
Hazel Macleod (née Smith) is a para-triathlon guide working with visually impaired athletes. She is originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne and now lives in Edinburgh when she is not training in Loughborough.
Hazel is a former Scottish national age group swimming champion. She won the 200m breaststroke title as a 13 year old. At Durham University she competed at national level in rowing. Durham has strong traditions in rowing and at 6ft with a background as a swimmer, rowing came naturally. However, it was triathlon that she later settled on after her parents bought her a road bike for her birthday in 2010; her father also competes in triathlon.
In 2014 Hazel won both the national Sprint and Standard distance national titles in her Age-Group (25-29). She was also selected as a reserve for the Scottish Commonwealth Games Triathlon Team.
At Rio 2016 she made her Paralympic debut as a guide for Alison Peasgood, the pair winning silver in the women’s PT5 event. She was guide for Melissa Reid at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and the duo finished in seventh place.
Hazel has a BSc from Durham University in Environmental Geoscience and an MSc from Newcastle University in Sustainable Water Management.
Macleod once again paired up with Peasgood but this time in the colours of Team Scotland. Unfortunately for the duo, a crash on the bike put end to their campaign as they recorded a DNF. This was their final race together prior to Peasgood taking maternity leave from the sport.
