Graeme has represented Scotland in wheelchair rugby league, earning over 30 caps for his country in major competitions including Four Nations Championships, European Championships and three World Cups – twice as captain – between 2012 and 2022. Prior to that, he was a talented Para rower – he won silver at the 2008 British Championships behind Tom Aggar, who went on to win gold at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
Graeme’s career in rowing had begun as a youngster, when he joined Loch Lomond Rowing Club as a 12-year-old. He was selected to represent Scotland in his teens before an accident outdoors playing with friends which resulted in a spinal cord injury.
The switch to wheelchair curling in late 2023 was in large part thanks to the persuasive enthusiasm of British Curling’s Paralympic Performance Pathway Manager Cheryl Lappin who he met through his work as a Peer Support Advisor in the Spinal Injuries Unit at the Queen Elizabeth University hospital in Glasgow.
Invited to a wheelchair curling Talent ID day, which he thoroughly enjoyed, Graeme was then asked to return for further assessments, where he impressed yet again. He was selected to join British Curling’s Paralympic Pathway Programme and made his international debut for Scotland in the European Super League in 2024.
Milano Cortina 2026 will be Graeme’s first Paralympic Games, where he will compete in the mixed team event.
