Dan Powell finally stood on the podium after winning his first Paralympic medal in the -90KG J1 category. The Brit, who made his debut at London 2012, won silver as ParalympicsGB doubled their Para judo medal tally from Tokyo.

In 2013 Dan stepped away from judo and returned home to Liverpool, taking up athletics as an outlet for his competitive nature. This led him to take up Para athletics and move to the national training centre in Loughborough, where he remains today.
Dan returned to judo in 2018, marking his return with a bronze medal at the IBSA Infraero De Judo Grand Prix and finished 5th at the European Championships in 2019.
After placing 7th at the 2020 Tokyo Games, Dan took up rowing and joined the National Training Centre in Nottingham, but returned to judo later In 2022 and won silver at the World Championships in his first competition back. He has since gone on to claim silver at the 2023 European Championships and heads to Paris having medalled at his previous 9 competitions.
In 2019, Dan became a father for the first time to Edward. Away from the dojo Dan has appeared on Ninja Warrior, the first person with a visual impairment to appear on the show.
