Dan Bethell won the badminton silver medal for the second successive Paralympic Games after losing a nail-biting gold medal match. He had a gold-medal point against Kumar Nitesh of India in the men’s SL3 singles decider, but went down 14-21 21-18 23-21 to finish runner-up at Paris 2024
Dan won ParalympicsGB’s first ever badminton medal with silver in the men’s SL3 singles at Tokyo 2020.
After cruising through the semi-final against India’s Manoj Sarkar in straight sets, Bethell lost a hard-fought final to world number one Pramod Bhagat.
He is also a two-time world silver medallist and four-time European champion in his category.
Bethell has always been a keen sportsman from the age of 13 and was inspired by ParalympicsGB’s performance at Beijing 2008 across many sports.
He switched between tennis and badminton before deciding to focus on the latter as a member of the national squad since 2018.
Dan has completed a master’s degree in International Commercial Law at the University of Bristol and is a massive Bath Rugby fan.
