Bio

Clare has been competing in triathlon since 2006, having formerly been a Paralympic champion swimmer. She won four silver medals at the 1992 Paralympic Games in Barcelona and set a new world record in the 50m freestyle S9 to claim the gold.

An early convert to the sport, she competed at the first British Para-triathlon Championships in 2008, and won gold at the first ever ITU World Championships on the Gold Coast, Australia in 2009. She has been a regular medal winner at World and European Championships since.

At Rio 2016, Clare made her return to Paralympic competition and finished seventh in the women’s PT4 event as triathlon made its Games debut.

To prepare for Rio 2016, Clare took a sabbatical from her job as a Chartered Accountant at Deloitte and has a 2:1 MA Honours in English Language and Literature from the University of St Andrews, Scotland.

Since retiring Clare has used her wide range of experience of Paralympic sport in her role as Athlete Services Manager at the British Paralympic Association.
