Abby started swimming after a family trip to Australia when she was a child. On that trip the family visited water parks but Abby couldn’t participate, so when she returned home she had swimming lessons. She was about seven years old at the time, and was inspired by her older brother, Fraser. She went on to compete in the S13 classification for visually impaired swimmers.

At the 2016 British Para-Swimming International Meet, 12 year-old Abby put herself in the mix for selection by twice lowering the British record in the 100m backstroke S13.

As ParalympicsGB’s youngest Rio team member, Abby made it a Paralympic Games she will never forget as she secured 100m backstroke S13 silver.

The 13-year-old touched the wall in 1:09.30, exactly one second after gold medallist Anna Stetsenko of the Ukraine who set a new Paralympic record.
