Wafula Strike and Rowbotham re-elected as Edmunds joins BPA Board

Anne Wafula Strike and Helen Rowbotham have been re-elected to the Board of the British Paralympic Association as Non-Executive Directors during a meeting of the membership of the National Paralympic Committee today.

Graham Edmunds was also elected as a new Board member, following Forbes Dunlop’s decision to stand down to devote more time to his role as acting Chief Executive of Sport Scotland.

Former wheelchair racer, Anne Wafula Strike is also currently serving as a Non Executive Director for both UK Athletics and Active Essex.

She continues to be a powerful advocate for an accessible and inclusive society where disabled people are fully integrated. As the first Goodwill Ambassador for Action on Disability and Development, she successfully supported the campaign for nations to ratify the UN Convention on the “Rights and Dignity of Persons with Disabilities”.

Helen Rowbotham is a passionate supporter of the Paralympic movement and wider disability sport sector.

In her role as Access Sport’s Chief Executive, she is a leading proponent for inclusive community sport and is working with a range of sports on the development and promotion of inclusive offers for disabled children and young people.

Newly elected Board member Graham Edmunds will bring the benefit of training and competing as a swimmer at three Paralympic Games (Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012)

The double Paralympic gold medallist served on the Board of British Swimming for nine years as an athlete representative. He is a qualified Pharmacist and used his expertise as a member of UK Anti-Doping’s athlete commission.

Graham also worked with British Swimming through the inception of the Code for Sports Governance including acting as the Board Anti-Doping Champion.
