Super Skelhon grabs World Cup silver
Matt Skelhon secured Great Britain’s second medal of the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup with silver in the mixed R3 air rifle prone SH1 final.
The 34-year-old recorded a score of 252.5 points to finish in second ahead of USA’s Taylor Farmer but fell just short of beating Veronika Vadovičová to top spot with the Slovakian scoring 254.7 to win her second gold medal of the competition in Croatia.
Skelhon – who won gold in the mixed air rifle prone SH1 at Beijing 2008 – did not expect to finish on the podium despite a series of consistent performances in the run-up to the final.
“I’m happy to come away with a medal, especially after that performance. It was a funny final,” he said.
Skelhon’s success comes just one day after Lorraine Lambert claimed Great Britain’s first medal of the World Cup with bronze in the women’s R8 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 final.
