ParalympicsGB can confirm that Alpine skier Katie Guest, who is Guide for Visually Impaired Alpine Skier Menna Fitzpatrick, has tested positive for COVID-19 during pre-departure testing for the Paralympic Winter Games which get underway on 4th March.

Under the principles of the Playbooks, all Games participants must return two negative COVID-19 (PCR) tests within 96 hours of departure of their flight to China.

As a result of the positive test results Katie will no longer travel to China to participate in the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.

Phil Smith, ParalympicsGB Chef de Mission said: “I’m devastated for Katie who will no longer travel to Beijing 2022 as I know how excited she was about the prospect of competing at her first Paralympic Games, after all the hard work she had put in to make the team. I know the entire ParalympicsGB team wish her well and will do all they can to give her plenty to cheer about back home.

“All selected team members have undergone extensive COVID-19 testing prior to departure, above and beyond the requirements of the Beijing 2022 organisers, and the health and welfare of our entire delegation remains one of our top priorities.”

Gary Smith will now be Menna Fitzpatrick’s Guide for all disciplines at Beijing 2022.
