GB's goalballers excel to reach quarter-finals at Paralympic Qualifier
Sarah Leiter could barely contain her excitement after Great Britain qualified for the quarter-finals at the 2019 IBSA Goalball Paralympic Qualifier with a comprehensive win over Germany.
Hat-tricks from Kali Holder and Georgie Bullen as well as two goals from Antonia Bunyan and one from Leiter helped GB power past Germany to earn their third win of the tournament, moving the game away from being in the balance at 5-3 ahead to end with a final score of 9-3.
GB will find out who they play in that quarter-final after their final group game against Australia later on Saturday which will decide whether they finish third or fourth in their group.
Leiter said: “It’s fantastic to be through. It was a really great game. Germany are a great team so I’m super excited we beat them 9-3.
“I think we really played together as one team. It was 1-0 for ages and it took us some time to score again but I think we played really united and all fought really hard for it.
“We’ve got our final group stage game against Australia to look forward to now.”
Earlier Leiter starred as Great Britain registered their second victory at the Paralympic Qualifier by defeating South Korea.
Leiter scored and registered numerous crucial penalty saves as GB eased to a 3-0 win and became the first side to shut out South Korea with goals also coming from Bullen and Holder.
