Four golds for British Paratriathlon team in Italy
It was a day of success for British athletes at the World Paratriathlon Series in Italy as George Peasgood, Alison Patrick, Dave Ellis and Lauren Steadman all claimed gold.
There were also silvers for Andy Lewis, Claire Cashmore and Fran Brown while Joe Townsend and Hannah Moore claimed bronze.
Peasgood is just 22 years old but was unbeatable in the PTS5 category in Iseo as he clocked a time of 00:59:24, 21 seconds ahead of world champion Stefan Daniel of Canada.
Essex’s Peasgood has enjoyed an excellent season so far, with a gold and silver in May, and continued his excellent form in northern Italy.
World silver medallist Steadman was victorious in the women’s PTS5 at last year’s event in Iseo and backed that result up with a second win in as many years.
Steadman finished five minutes ahead of fellow Briton Cashmore, with France’s Gwladys Lemoussu taking bronze.
Patrick’s gold came in the PTVI where she finished ahead of Spain’s Susana Rodriguez and USA’s Amy Dixon.
Ellis claimed gold in the men’s PTVI as he swept away the rest of the competition to finish more than three minutes ahead of second-placed Hector Catala Laparra, with Italy’s Maurizio Romeo third.
With two victories in 2018 already under his belt Ellis came into the race in excellent form and proved unbeatable once again.
Townsend claimed bronze in the men’s PTWC to keep up the good form that saw him claim Commonwealth gold in the men’s Para-triathlon in April.
The 30-year-old from Eastbourne finished behind Dutch duo Jetze Plat and Geert Schipper.
Lewis claimed silver in the PTS2 as he finished 54 seconds behind USA’s Mark Barr but well ahead of the much-fancied Stephane Bahier of France, who finished sixth.
