Five Paralympians elected to British Paralympic Association Athletes’ Commission

New Representatives

Five Paralympians representing a wide range of sports have today been announced as new representatives on The British Paralympic Association Athletes’ Commission.

Grace Clough MBE (Para rowing), Charlotte Henshaw (Para swimming), Ali Jawad (Powerlifting), Sean Rose (Para alpine skiing) and Lora Fachie MBE (Para cycling) are the newly-elected candidates and will join current representatives Stef Reid MBE, Claire Cashmore MBE, Sophie Christiansen CBE, Helene Dyson and Ben Quilter.

The Commission seeks to represent a balance of summer and winters sport, male and female athletes and a range of impairment groups.

It plays a crucial role in ensuring the athletes’ views are represented to the BPA board, Executive Team and Games Planning Group where it provides crucial insight to help inform ParalympicsGB planning for Winter and Summer Games.

The new representatives were elected by fellow Paralympians and those unsuccessful on this occasion can stand again in 2020.

Grace Clough MBE, Para Rowing

Grace Clough took up rowing in late 2013 but made her Paralympic debut at Rio 2016 as a double world champion.

At Rio 2016 Grace was part of the mixed coxed four who claimed gold in the final race of the regatta alongside cox Oliver James, Daniel Brown, James Fox, and Pam Relph.

Lora Fachie MBE, Para Cycling

Lora Fachie started competing for the Great Britain Cycling Team in 2009 and represented ParalympicsGB at London 2012 with pilot Fiona Duncan, twice finishing fourth on the track and taking seventh and eighth on the road.

At Rio 2016, Lora claimed pursuit gold and time trial bronze with pilot Corrine Hall.

Charlotte Henshaw, Para Swimming/Para Canoe

Charlotte Henshaw was first chosen to represent ParalympicsGB at Beijing 2008 and again four years later at London 2012 where she claimed silver in the SB6 100m Breaststroke.

Charlotte was part of the ParalympicsGB team once again at Rio 2016, this time taking the SB6 100m Breaststroke bronze.

In summer 2017 Charlotte transferred from Para Swimming to Para Canoe and finished second KL2 in the women’s 200m at the European Championships in Bulgaria.

Ali Jawad, Powerlifting

Ali Jawad competed for ParalympicsGB at Beijing 2008 and, despite falling ill on the eve of competition, he still competed and finished ninth.

Ali finished fourth at London 2012 but returned four years later to claim his first-ever Paralympic medal after securing silver in the men’s -59kg category.

Sean Rose, Para Alpine Skiing

Sean Rose first competed for ParalympicsGB in Para alpine skiing at the Turin 2006 Paralympics Winter Games.

Sean went on to compete at Paralympic level at Vancouver 2010 and also claimed a Winter X Games medal.
