There was yet more success for the British lifters at the Manchester 2020 Road to Tokyo Para Powerlifting World Cup as Kimberley Dean took gold on Friday.

Dean added to Zoe Newson’s success on Thursday by claiming top spot in the women’s up to 61kg category ahead of Nicola Dore of Ireland and Renata Koselak of Hungary.

The British star successfully lifted 72kg in her opening attempt in Manchester before twice failing at 76kg, but it was still enough to finish top of the pile, with Dore finishing on 67kg, and Koselak on 60kg.

There was also a senior bronze and junior gold medal for Mark Swan later in the day, as he twice broke the European junior record with lifts of 150kg and 155kg to come third in the men’s up to 65kg category.

Swan finished behind Chile’s Jorge Carinao, who lifted 170kg, with winner Marek Trykacz taking gold after lifting 173kg with his first attempt.

Elsewhere, Sean Clare finished ninth in the men’s up to 59kg category after lifting 116kg, while Rebecca Bedford finished sixth in the women’s up to 67kg event where she lifted 75kg.

The action in Manchester continues over the weekend, with many more British athletes set to compete, including Nathaniel Wilding and Micky Yule in the men’s up to 72kg event on Saturday, as well as Liam McGarry in the men’s +107kg on Sunday.
