ParalympicsGB’s Wheelchair Curlers are becoming the masters of the morning session after beating Estonia 10-5 at the start of Day 4 of competition at the Ice Cube.

Having thrashed Switzerland the previous morning the British team faced an Estonian team who had also won two of their first four fixtures.

They clearly like the morning sessions as they began to steadily build a lead scoring three in the second end when they had the hammer and stealing two in the next.

Following a short delay after Skip Hugh Nibloe spotted damage to the playing surface, Estonia hit back scoring three to make it 5-4 in ParalympicsGB’s favour at the halfway point.

Gregor Ewan played a precise draw shot to help the team score four in the next end and that proved decisive as the match finished 10-5.

Meggan Dawson-Farrell the crocheting curler

Meggan Dawson-Farrell, who has also competed for Scotland in wheelchair racing at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games before focussing on Curling, said: “Coming into the day with a win brings you back up again and makes you want to really fight for it.

“I didn’t have the team aspect in wheelchair racing but for me I have the determination to do well and have been able to bring that into curling from athletics. I am used to getting up early from athletics so I am up and ready to go.”

"Best present ever": a blanket made by Meggan's aunt who taught her to crochet

To keep her occupied between matches Meggan is crocheting a blanket for the care home her Grandfather Ian Dawson lives in.

She said: “I like to relax by doing crochet, my aunt taught me to crochet during lockdown and I am in the process of making a blanket while I am here - I am the Tom Daley of the Paralympic world! I like to just sit and block out the world and give it a go.”
