Bio
Nathan Macqueen and his seven month pregnant teammate Jodie Grinham clinched gold for ParalympicsGB at Paris 2024 by beating Iran 155-151 in the mixed team compound final.
The scores were level at 77-77 at the halfway point, however a couple of 8s from Iran’s Hadi Nori helped give ParalympicsGB a two-point lead (115-113) going into the final end and they responded with a perfect score of 40 to secure the title
Nathan is an all-round sportsman who played rugby for Glasgow Warriors at Under 18 level before he was involved in a serious motorbike accident when he was 17-years-old. Before his accident Macqueen was part of Scotland’s archery team.
As part of his recovery from his spinal injury, Nathan tried powerlifting and wheelchair basketball before deciding to focus on shooting arrows at a target.
He made his international debut a few months before being selected for Rio 2016, where he finished ninth.
In 2023, Nathan rose to the top of the rankings as a World silver medallist and a double European champion in the men’s individual and team compound.
Nathan has also won multiple medals at European and World level. In 2024 he won gold in the compound open mixed team division at the European Para Cup with Jodie Grisham and at the European Para Championships he also won a bronze mixed team medal with Phoebe Paterson Pine. His interests outside of archery include cars, carpentry and cooking.
