Matt Skelhon claims GB's second shooting gold
Matt Skelhon claimed Great Britain’s second gold at the World Shooting Para-sport World Cup in Chateauroux by the tightest of margins.
The 2008 Paralympic champion clinched the win by just 0.1 points ahead of Finland’s Jarkko Mylly in the R3 10m air rifle prone mixed SH1 event.
Skelhon, a silver and bronze medallist at London 2012, recorded a score of 253.4 to claim a second medal at the event after the 33-year-old won bronze in the R6 50m rifle prone mixed event earlier in the week.
Taking a convincing lead with four rounds left to go, the 2018 World Shooting Para-sport Championship silver medallist, managed to hold out for victory despite the tense finish.
The Peterborough-born athlete’s victory secured GB a second quota place at the 2020 Paralympics after teammate James Bevis’ gold in the R9 50m rifle event.
