Project Manager (Athlete Community and Social Impact)
British Paralympic Association
Fixed Term until end March 2024
Circa £35-000 - £40,000 (pro rata) depending on experience
About us
We are the British Paralympic Association (BPA). As the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) for Great Britain, it is our responsibility to select, prepare, enter, fund, and manage the ParalympicsGB team at the Paralympic Games. We use the positive power of the Paralympics and of our Paralympians to inspire a change in attitudes to disability. Our long-term focus is to deliver real and sustainable change in the lives of disabled people across the UK.
To support this vision we are recruiting for a new role to support us in our work in two areas. We’re seeking an experienced project manager to manage, implement and monitor two transformational new projects; 1) The implementation of the UK Major Para Sport Events 2023 - Social Impact Opportunities Project in conjunction with UK Sport; and 2) Developing, implementing, and managing a new ParalympicsGB Athlete Community. Both projects form a key part of our social impact ambitions, and the role will be required to work equally across both projects.
We are partnering with UK Sport on this exciting new role. UK Sport are the nation’s trusted high-performance experts, powering our greatest athletes, teams, sports and events to achieve positive success. Through strategic leadership and investment of National Lottery and Government funds, UK Sport has transformed the high-performance sporting system, winning more Olympic and Paralympic medals than ever before and is recognised as one of the top nations in the world for event hosting capabilities.
UK Sport’s purpose is to lead high-performance sport to enable extraordinary moments that enrich lives, and aims to work collaboratively with partners to deliver its mission to create the greatest decade of extraordinary moments; reaching, inspiring and uniting the nation.
This year there will be seven major Para Sports events held in the UK and UK Sport and the BPA are seeking to effect greater change through a collective approach to social impact activity and storytelling across the events. The implementation of the project will require project managing stakeholders and agencies to develop, implement and monitor an Accessibility Toolkit, Storytelling Toolkit, Event Workforce Training, and consistent Measurement & Evaluation framework across the seven events.
The BPA are also looking to develop and launch a new Athlete Community for present and retired Paralympic athletes. The role is required to support the development of the community including reaching and engaging Paralympians, developing the communications with the community and signposting them to support available with social impact activities.
With the excitement of the Paris Paralympic Games on our doorstep and packed series of major Para Sports events in the UK in 2023, there could not be a more exciting time to join us!
We offer a generous range of benefits including pension, season ticket loan, cycle to work scheme, employee assistance programme, private healthcare and generous holiday entitlement.
We are based in accessible, modern offices in the heart of London and on campus at Loughborough University. We have a flexible approach to working patterns. This commitment to flexibility in how we work, when we work and where we work is an important feature of life at the BPA and we will do all we can to help you work in a way that suits you.
Come and meet us, we’re great to work with!
About you
Working both remotely and at the British Paralympic Association headquarters in central London, you will be working in a small but effective team leading on social impact. You should be passionate about disability and inclusive sport and the opportunities to deliver positive social change for the disabled community – through major events, storytelling, a community of Paralympians, and the opportunity to lead change across the sports sector.
The Project Manager role is primarily designed to manage the two specific projects highlighted. Both projects have been scoped and designed based on new detailed research and insight findings. There are key deliverables and milestones up to end March 2024 for both projects and established support for the role across both the BPA and UK Sport. Whilst the role has identified project management functions and responsibilities, it also has plenty of room for you to be creative and innovative to help us achieve our ambitions for both projects. The role will report to the BPA’s Head of Social Impact.
You will have a passion for enhancing inclusive sport and physical activity events and activities for disabled people and enabling Paralympians to come together to celebrate their successes and use their voice for social change. We’re looking for someone who’s excited by a busy and wide-ranging role and will have the skillset to project manage two separate yet interconnecting projects, whilst also being happy to step up and get involved across the organisation.
The successful candidate will be supported every step of the way on their journey with the BPA. We are committed to giving people a positive team experience and are committed to helping all our staff develop their skills and reach their full potential.
For full information on the role’s requirements please review the job description which details the main tasks and responsibilities and the person specification.
The BPA is fully committed to the principles of the equality of opportunity. It is responsible for ensuring that no job applicant receives less favourable treatment, on the grounds of age, race, disability, parental or marital status, religious belief, sex, gender, social status, or sexual orientation, than any other.
Last year we launched our new 10-year strategy: Championing Change, 2022-2032. You will therefore commit to our three values:
Excellence – Everything we do reflects our ambition to be world leading. We care deeply about what we do and bring a flexible approach to our interactions with others. Like the athletes we support, we will always challenge ourselves and others to do better.
Respect – Our relationships with each other, our partners and the wider community are based on respect, trust and a deep-seated belief in diversity, inclusion, and the value of our differences.
Integrity – We demand the highest standards from ourselves and others, seeking always to do the right thing and to engage with openness and transparency in all that we do.
