Tai and Robinson complete Italian job
Alice Tai topped the podium while Ellie Robinson rounded off a thrilling GB one-two in Italian waters as the pair dominated the women’s 50m freestyle at the Lignano Sabbiadoro World Para Swimming World Series meet.
After qualifying first and third respectively in the morning session, the two Paralympic gold medallists came into their own in the afternoon.
Ranked no.1 overall in the women’s 50m free, Tai delivered on the billing as she finished in 29.43s to earn 1037 points, comfortably catapulting her to the gold medal.
The result sees her claim a third crown of the weekend, adding to the 100m backstroke title that she took on Friday and the 100m freestyle sealed on Thursday.
Robinson’s 33.93s race garnered 976 points as she narrowly held off home favourite Arjola Trimi, who missed out on a top-two spot by just three points.
