Olympian Denise Lewis’ medallion made by The Royal Mint went on sale at BP forecourts today. Anyone who collects it has the chance to win London 2012 Olympic tickets, signed clothing and once in a lifetime experiences with ParalympicsGB and Team GB.
The medallion, one of 12 released to commemorate some of Britain’s greatest Paralympians and Olympians, depicts Denise’s winning moment from Sydney in 2000. It is the moment when she won gold in heptathlon despite carrying an injury to her Achilles tendon.
The collection will raise funds in support of British athletes at the London 2012 Paralympic and Olympic Games and beyond.
If you buy a medallion you are in with a chance to win:
• One of 500 pairs of Olympic tickets including Athletics, Equestrian, Boxing and Swimming
• Once in a lifetime experiences with ParalympicsGB and Team GB, including tickets to the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the Paralympic Games, a trip to the Team GB house and a visit to the official Team GB prep camp
• Signed merchandise including caps signed by Sir Steve Redgrave CBE, tops signed by Dame Kelly Holmes MBE (Mil) or medallion folders signed by all 12 of The Legend Collection athletes.
Each medallion comes with a unique code that you simply type into the website at www.bp.com/medallions to see if you’ve won a great prize. Entering the code also unlocks lots of exclusive features.
The collection includes: Sir Steve Redgrave CBE, Sebastian Coe KBE, Dame Kelly Holmes MBE (mil), Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE, Daley Thompson CBE, Denise Lewis OBE, James Cracknell OBE, Sir Chris Hoy MBE, Rebecca Adlington OBE, Ben Ainslie CBE, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE and Lee Pearson CBE.

Andy Hunt, Chef de Mission Team GB London 2012 commented: “We are hugely proud of our Olympic and Paralympic heritage and what better way to celebrate our legends than to produce a medallion collection to honour them. We hope that everyone will seize this opportunity to start collecting the medallions and in doing so show their support for British athletes at London 2012 and beyond.”
Craig Hunter, Chef de Mission of ParalympicsGB, says: “Collecting the medallions is a fantastic way for the public to get behind our athletes and be part of British sporting history this summer. Sales of the Collection will raise valuable funds for Team GB and ParalympicsGB, supporting the athletes competing in London and beyond.”
All profits from the sale of the Our Greatest Team Legends Collection will directly support ParalympicsGB and Team GB to help aspiring athletes deliver their best performance at London 2012 and beyond.
A new medallion is released each Wednesday to build the complete Our Greatest Team Legends Collection – one of only two official pieces of memorabilia created to support Team GB and ParalympicsGB. Every collector can play their part in supporting Our Greatest Team; for children, the collection will provide an education on our greatest Olympic and Paralympic legends and for adults a bit of nostalgia revisiting the great moments in Games history.
The next medallion to be released will be James Cracknell OBE in a week’s time, on June 20 2012 with Sir Chris Hoy MBE following on June 27.
