Tonys first international competition was in 1976 and his Paralympic career reached its pinnacle 8 years later.

At the Games in New York Tony won gold medals in the javelin and club, breaking the world record in both events in the process.

Tony also won silver in weightlifting and a bronze with the 7-a-side football team at the same Games. Tony now has 6 children and lives in Bolton.

In 2009 he was delighted to met fellow 1984 athletics Gold Medallist Lord Sebastian Coe when they were both on the top table at a Sportsman’s Dinner.

Tony features in The Spirit of Sport, a piece of public art dedicated to Bolton’s sporting community, and is a Sporting Ambassador for Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs who he has been employed by for over 30 years.
