Russell Willey

Russell has competed in an incredible 6 Paralympic Games with his strength and commitment to training seeing him selected for 5 Summer Games in the sport of Powerlifting and 1 Winter Games in the sport of Ice Sledge Hockey.

Although he was never able to claim a Paralympic medal Russell was crowned World Weightlifting Champion 3 times in 1987, 1989 and 1990. He also won the European Powerlifting title in 1993 and again in 1997 and held the world record for the 60 kilogram class from 1990 until 1992. Once Russell retired from Powerlifting he took up Ice Sledge Hockey initially recreationally but was quickly hooked on its speed and aggression and found himself competing for Great Britain once more. Russell lives in Bridgend, Wales.
