Kevin Curtis

Kevin started sailing in Cyprus in 1972 in a firefly dinghy.

When he returned to the UK in 1973 he joined Deben Yachting Club and started to compete in local events, winning numerous trophies.

Kevin had an industrial accident in 1978 and continued to participate in Sailing. He soon progressed in the sport, becoming National Champion and in 1992 World Champion, also securing the accolade Yachtsman of the Year.

Kevin competed for Great Britain at the Paralympics in Atlanta 1996, when Sailing featured for the first time at a Paralympic Games as a demonstration sport. Kevin and his crew won their event, which was contested by 15 nations.

Kevin now works for NHS wheelchair services in Ipswich and is a patron to a disabled advice bureau. He is also a trustee and first vice-president to the East Anglia sailing trust.
