Jessica-Jane Applegate MBE

Jessica-Jane made her Paralympic debut at London 2012, where she won gold in the 200m Freestyle (S14).

In the final of the 200m Freestyle (S14), 16-year-old Jessica-Jane qualified fastest but was lying in bronze medal position as she entered the final length. However, she finished the race on top of the podium, having taken two seconds from her personal best with a Paralympic record time of 2:12.63.

Before she began her Paralympic career, Jessica-Jane had been Swimming for approximately five years. At her first international competition overseas - the 2012 Berlin Open - Jessica-Jane won bronze medals in the 50m Freestyle (S14) and the 100m Freestyle (S14). She also brought home gold medals in the 50m Butterfly (S14) and 200m Freestyle (S14).

At the end of 2012, Jessica-Jane was shortlisted for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

In the 2013 New Year's Honours, Jessica-Jane was awarded a MBE.
